Thane Stevens

A leader is not simply the sum of their titles and positions held, but rather the impact they have had in those roles. For Thane, joining his family’s successful second-generation business did not limit his drive and vision to see an impact in every role he has held with the Stevens Group of Companies since he first started with them in 1984 soon after embarking on his engineering career.

Thane started his first job at what is known now as BMR Structural Engineering, formerly George Brandys and Associates and currently serves as President of the Stevens Group of Companies, a role he has held since 2000.

Thane has had a significant impact on the growth of the company over the years that is undeniable. When Thane first assumed the

role of President in 2000 there were 5 companies, approximately 125 employees and $25,000,000 in revenue. This has grown to 30 companies operating under the Stevens Group banner with 750 employees and over $300,000,000 in revenue.

Thane is known for his forthright approach and integrity. Often consulted for his ability to analyze challenging scenarios, Thane has keen insight that he is willing to share to support his partners in business as well as the greater community. He has always been willing to try new approaches to existing processes, even if that change is uncomfortable or may have an initial higher cost.

Thane maintains his connection to the legacy his grandfather established as a builder of churches, developing not only a client/customer relationship but, often times, volunteering – supporting them to find the best way forward to realize a building that would best serve their community. Over the years, under Thane’s leadership, BD Stevens has helped Woodlawn United Church, Aylesford Baptist Church, First Baptist in Dartmouth, Bedford Baptist, Bridgewater Baptist and Stoneridge Fellowship in Sackville.

Thane was instrumental in establishing the Stevens Family Foundation in 2008 as a means to continue B.D and L.B. Stevens’ legacy of giving back to the greater community. In keeping with the family’s philosophy of giving, the Foundation has supported many worthwhile charitable organizations since 2008. The Foundation has supported the local community, continuing the family and company’s charitable legacy.

Thane gives a great deal of time to the betterment of his community, having been a member of the IWK’s Board of Directors as well as being an active participant in campaigns for Feed Nova Scotia.
