The Legacy Project was established in 2017 by the Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame Laureates and JA Nova Scotia to commemorate the Laureates and their contributions to Nova Scotia’s economy and business landscape. In 2021, the Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame inducted the 100th Laureate, Viola Desmond.

Establish a highly visible, publicly accessible, permanent, and curated portrait gallery, and a contemporary, interactive and engaging digital strategy.
The media wall installation is an interactive audio/video wall, fully integrated into the architecture of the atrium space of the Halifax Convention Centre. Laureate content is accessible through touch screen navigation.

The portraits are culturally significant content and represent our economic heritage. The gallery is a curated interactive and educative experience hosted by The Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University.

The digital archive is a repository for the historical content and features collected in the process of creating the Media Wall and Portrait Gallery. The archival website is searchable by Laureate and contains portraits, biographies, pictures, video, and news articles.

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) are very important values for the Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame and Legacy Project. Laureates serve as role models and mentors to youth represented by all equity seeking groups including African Nova Scotian, Indigenous, new Canadians, and youth at-risk due to socio-economic circumstances.
The Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame can induct posthumous candidates to the Hall every year, which may include those overlooked by systemic barriers. Posthumous inductees bring visibility and recognition to overlooked contributors to Nova Scotia’s Business History.
The Nominating and Judging committees have clear terms of reference and are accountable to the JA Nova Scotia Board of Directors and broader Laureate community. The processes and leadership serving the induction of Laureate potentials have prioritized the consideration of more new Canadians, more women, more African Nova Scotians, Acadians, Indigenous peoples, and differently abled individuals, as well as different forms of business and entrepreneurship, such as innovative business models, creative industry, and social purposes businesses.
